Kick Samples
Summary: Essay provides directions for taking kick samples.
- Place square frame quadrat gently on stream floor on specific site.
- Place net at the end of the quadrat (mouth of net should be opposite to the flow of water so that any invertebrates present will be carried downstream into the net once the kick sample has taken place)
- Once net is in position, gently begin to agitate the stream floor enclosed within the quadrat frame by light stamping of the brook floor for a fixed amount of time - 20 seconds.
- Having done this, carefully and gently empty contents of net into a clear white plastic tray.
- Before doing the kick sample, I should get another white plastic tray ready filled with a reasonable amount of water.
