Czechoslovakian Revolution

Summary: Discusses the Czechoslovakain revolution from the Iron Curtain and the USSR in 1989.
During the second half of the 1980s, the Czechoslovakian people began to get tired of Communism. They had been ruled by Communism since 1968, when the Soviets invaded. Since Czechoslovakia was not very large, it did not have many soldiers and had a history of losing battles, including a loss to the Nazis. The leader at the time was Gustav Husak, who was the head of a very strict Communist government.

The Revolution started on November 17, 1989, when students began protesting against the government. This protest was immediately stopped by police, but it influenced many other people to fight also. Starting the next day, protests began being held daily in Prague, the countries capital and Bratislava.

Two major groups formed by the people included the "Civic Forum" (OF) and "Public Against Violence" (VNP). These groups were the leaders of the revolution and were in charge of the demonstrations.
