Drug Testing of Employees
Summary: An opinionated essay on employee drug testing.
Through scientific advancement, recent technologies have brought forth ethical issues that have never been dealt with before. Increased insight in forensics and other scientific methods of determining every aspect of a human's life has given us a sense of security, but where do we draw the line? Police do not have the right to randomly search a person's house. What gives companies the right to search an employee's substance intake with no previous suspicion? Drug testing of employee's by employers is unjust; it infringes upon every Canadian citizen's constitutionally enforced rights and freedoms. These testing policies violate the Canadian Charter of Rights Section 8, protection from search and seizure, section 11(d) one's right to be presumed innocent until proven guilty, and section 15(1) one's right not to be discriminated against because of physical or mental disability.
