Summary: The essay is a historical account of the rise of German nationalism prior to World War II.
During the 18th and 19th centuries, the German people were looking for an identity as a country and as a united people. The works of many German philosophers of the time became concentrated on exploring German history and finding a common spirit to unite the German people under. This coming together made German nationalism among the people almost an obsession, as this German nationalism sprouted from the German's dislike for the French, the belief of Darwinism, and the ideologies of influential German people. With a sense of unity and national greatness, Germany was destined to become a major power of the world.
Throughout the 18th century, France was viewed as the ideal country. The French people were united under a common goal of bettering France, as the food, etiquette, and ideologies of the French were seen as sophisticated. This idea of the perfect French people angered the Germans...
