Job Description for Firefighters

Firefighters must know how to administer First aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation to injured citizens. Firefighters are required to know how to drive and operate fire trucks and ambulances, even though most departments hire engineers which drive and operate gauges and pumps that are on board. Firefighters MUST move to the source of a fire or harmful situation using knowledge of types of fires, construction designs, building materials, and physical layout of properties. Firefighters have to assess fires and different situations and then respond back to their chief or supervisor in order to gain additional information and directions on how to "attack" the blaze. Most departments talk to each other when they are on a scene by using two-way radios.
