In the book Night, Ellie Weisel shows how the Narrator (Ellie Weisel) changes from being very religious to losing his faith in God. When he was in his town of Sighet, he had strong religious beliefs. When troubles started Ellie looked to god for help, since he did not receive any help he began to doubt god's justice to his people. When everything seemed to go wrong he didn't believe god existed.
In the town of Sighet, Ellie was very religious. When asked " Why `did he' pray" he did not know why and instead questioned "why did `he' live" and "why did `he' breathe." This shows that religion was a natural part of Ellie's life and was his equivalent to living and breathing.
