Auschwitz, one of the largest death camps in Europe during world war two, was the place of death for over one million people. These people, Jews, Polish political prisoners, Gypsies and various other deportees, were mostly executed based on religion and nationality. Auschwitz consisted of three separate camps: Auschwitz one, Auschwitz two-Birkinau, and Auschwitz three-Monowitz. Auschwitz soon became a feared name in the houses of all the Jewish peoples.
Auschwitz was established in a town originally called Oswiecim, in Poland. The name of this town was later changed to Auschwitz, which gave its name to the concentration camp that the town hosted. This camp, finished on May 27, 1940 on the orders of Heinrich Himmler, was the "main attraction" in Auschwitz.
