Predestination
Summary: My essay illustrates both views of predestination, as well as the history of, and founder, John Calvin.
What is Predestination? The textbook definition: "Predestination, in Christian theology, is the teaching that the eternal destiny of a person is predetermined by God's unchangeable decree (Price)." This definition is accepted, but the doctrine is still being debated by theologians world-wide. What it boils down to is that predestination is universally known, but not unanimously understood.
Another look at predestination provides an additional meaning of the word: .".. the belief that God foresees and wills from all eternity that some individuals will be saved, and others will not (Raboteau)." This is an easier version to grasp because of its two sections: that you will either spend eternity with God, in Heaven, or in separation from him, in Hell. Therefore, only the final destination is pre-appointed, not the actions of the predestined (Price). But that is only single predestination.
