The Courage of Jethro in "Across Five Aprils"

Summary: My essay is about how Jethro had the most courage compared to Bill and Matt Creighton from the novel "Across Five Aprils."
Several characters in Across Five Aprils make decisions that violate either popular opinion or the law. Three good examples of this are Matt Creighton, Bill Creighton, and Jethro. The results were actions, which were based on personal belief and opinion. They all were being independent and acting on their thoughts. Out of those three, I believe Jethro's act required the most courage because it went against popular opinion and the law, and perhaps even his own family.

Bill Creighton's decision to go against the whole community and run away to join the Confederacy took bravery and guts, but it was also somewhat a cowardly and stubborn thing to do. Bill was running away from his conflicts against the community and running away to a place where people would agree with what he thinks, or at least support him.
