Many well-known, cartoonists in the 1900's have gained popularity in creating cartoons that have been about the war and war-related themes. Bill Mauldin and Winsor McCay, well-known in the art of creating still cartoons and action cartoons in movies, is two such cartoonist. Mauldin is known for drawing still cartoons and McCay is known for creating action cartoons. They created their own style of cartoons and together made a mockery of the U.S. Army and Navy. Although both harvest the same subject, each of these creative men chooses different artistic styles.

The beginning life of action cartoonist Winsor McCay is a very interesting one because he comes from the "little town of Spring Lake, Michigan.
