Wang Lung: A Man with a Passion
Summary: This essay is about the main character, Wang Lung, and how his personality changes throughout the book "The Good Earth." It shows his virtues, strengths and weaknesses.
In the book The Good Earth by Pearl S. Buck, a story is told of a Chinese farmer, who is deeply in love with his land. Early in the book, we find Wang Lung preparing for his first meeting with his new wife. After the preparation for the day, Wang Lung travels to the House of Hwang, and meets O-lan. His initial reaction to seeing his wife was one of disappointment. This was because she was plain and her feet were not bound, which was a symbol of high status. The book continues with scenarios that occur, showing Wang Lung's dedication to his land, and wanting to be a good provider for his family. Not unlike other people, Wang had his share of strengths, weakness, and virtues when it came to family and most importantly, the land.
Wang's most evident strength is his unconditional love for the land...
