Stephen Crane's "The Bride Comes to Yellow Sky" is a splendid short story about a town marshal and a local drunk. Normally these two characters do not see eye to eye and keep their distances whenever possible. Whenever Scratch Wilson becomes too drunk he comes into town looking for a fight. Jack always takes the stand and gets rid of him for the time being. If compared, normally these would be total opposites, but in the story we see a different side to Jack Potter that's shows a different aspect to his character, the one that proves that he is not too different than Scratchy Wilson. He is an overall nice guy, but when placed out of his territory is very unusual.
On the train home Jack never tells his new bride too much about Yellow Sky, nor does he mind to mention that he is the town...
