Summary: Essay discusses Kazdin and his views on spanking children.
There are three views of spanking. One, the pro-corporal punishment view saying that if you spank your child your child will listen to you and have good behavior. The second view is the anti-corporal punishment view where a child learns through social interactions which proceed from one generation to the next. The third view discussed in this article is the conditional corporal punishment view stating that spanking is neither negative or positive and can be supported scientifically.

They discovered on the negative side spanking was associated with decreased evidence of morals in life, parent child relationships diminished, poor health of both child and parent, and also antisocial behavior and increase risk of being a victim of abuse. The positive side to this study is that children who are spanked comply with their parents and are more well behaved then others when it comes to this.
