Causes of the Civil War
There are those who argue that the slavery issue led inevitably to secession and civil war. On the other hand, a stronger argument can be made that secession was not at all inevitable and could have been avoided by the compromises proposed by a number of moderates. Therefore I agree with the above statement, that the Civil War was the result of extremism and failures of leadership on both sides with relevance to the extreme feelings of proslavery southerners and anti-slavery northern abolitionists, failure of both sides to abide by the laws set in the compromises, and the failure of the presidents of the time to effectively compromise, with relevance to the historical documents given.
