In The Stone Carvers, a novel by Jane Urquhart, a young man named Eamon O'Sullivan goes off to fight in World War One. He is the only man from the little town of Shoneval to fight in WWI, and he never returns. Before his depart, he and his lover Klara Becker, the heroine of the story, have an argument.
