Summary: Essay analyzes the factors of the decline of Old Kingdom Egypt.
In the 4th Dynasty, old kingdom Egypt was at its peak. However, since the beginning of the 5th Dynasty, the old kingdom started to fall apart, and by the end of Pepi II reign in the 6th Dynasty, Old Kingdom Egypt finally collapsed. There are a lot of factors contributing to this, and they include the growing independence of the nobles, kings marrying non royal noble families, the sun cult becoming the dominating religion, the King's treasury was being depleted at a constant rate and the horrible weather the Old Kingdom faced during the 6th Dynasty.
From the 5th dynasty onwards, official posts were not only offered to members of the royal family but too nobles as well. Through this, the nobles were given more power than they had ever had before. This increase of power to the nobles saw a corresponding decrease in the numbers of offices...
