Given the ancient sources available to historians, it is impossible to positively determine the purpose and role of women in ancient Minoan society. While it is evident that women played and important and predominant role in society "women played a more important role"1, the specific duty of Minoans female residence is questionable.

The role of Women in ancient Minoan society is a subject under question. There are ancient sources that modern historian have to work with in relation to Minoan women. The problem with these sources is caused by a lack of presence/ or understanding of these sources.
