There is a piece of music that I am very fascinated with and that is The Hebrides Overture by Felix Mendelssohn. This piece is written for a full-scale orchestra and I was lucky enough to catch a live performance of it.

Before the orchestra started playing, the conductor explained the background of the music. Mendelssohn was visiting Scotland and was very impressed by its scenery so much so that he wrote the opening bars to The Hebrides and sent it back home. Then he further developed the music to reflect the landscapes and atmosphere he experienced whilst on his trip.
