Achievement Gap
Summary: This essay explores the issues surrounding the task of closing the achievement gap.
Since 1970 and 1988 there were significant closures in the achievement gap between minorities and their white peers (Olsen, 1996). Unfortunately this progress ended and left many wondering and studying why no more progress has been made. Still today, African Americans, Latinos, and Native Americans perform well below their white peers in all grade levels and in all subjects (Olsen, 1996). This paper is going to look at several different reasons why this gap remains and suggest possible solutions and complications of these problems.
In the math education method courses and the physical education method courses that I have completed so far here at Western Michigan University, I have learned that I wouldn't want to teach out of these two subject areas when I get out into the workforce.
