The book Fools Crow, written by James Welch, makes anyone who reads it more appreciative of Indians. The book is about a young man, Fools Crow, who grows up and has to deal with the obstacles of white men and searches to find who he is, and what he wants to do in life. While he is growing up he sees his best friend, Fast Horse, choosing a path in life which he doesn't really agree with or understand. There are many differences, and similarities between Fools Crow and Fast Horse.

Through the book, Fast Horse gets into trouble and is banned from the tribe. After leaving the tribe, he joins up with some rebels that kill Napikiwans.
