Gilbert Newton Lewis and Elias James Corey
Gilbert was born on October 23, 1875, in Weymouth, Massachusetts. When Gilbert was young in studied a lot. By the age of 14 he entered the University of Nebraska. After studding there for three years he transferred to the Harvard University. There he worked for seven years he earned his PhD at the age of twenty-five. Before he graduated he studied at Leipzig and Goettingen, Germany. After he graduated he began to instruct at Harvard University. He began research on electrochemistry and chemical equilibrium. In 1904, he made a major move in his life. He moved to the Philippines to become the superintendent of Weights and Measurements. After a year there in made another major move. He moved to Massachusetts, there he got a position a Massachusetts Institute of Technology. At MIT he began work on thermodynamics and free energies for elements for six years.
