In Where Angels Fear To Tread by E.M. Forster, it seems as though Gino makes Lilia freer with the way she lives by making her give away her money as well as her family all to live far away in Italy. Though in the end, before Lilia dies, this is all reversed, Lilia figures out that Gino has been spending her money and cheating on her, which brings her to hate Italy and Gino as well, and it also makes her want to go back to her family in England. Showing that leaving your family and everything you know behind you will, in the end, have great consequences, for Lilia dies from complications with childbirth, though if she had stayed with her family, she might have lived a good life with Charles, even if she felt that that would have been worse.
