The Evils of Change within Japanese Society
Summary: "Thousand Cranes" by Yasunari Kawabata, "The Handkerchief" by Ryunosuke Akutagawa, "Patriotism" by Yukio Mishima and "The Last Samurai" directed by Edward Zick all show the change within Japanese culture and its bad effects on it.
Four works of Japanese literature that show the change within Japanese culture and it bad effects on it are; Thousand Cranes by Yasunari Kawabata, "The Handkerchief" by Ryunosuke Akutagawa, "Patriotism" by Yukio Mishima and finally The Last Samurai directed by Edward Zick. Contained in all four works is the westernization of Japanese society, which brings about the revolution from ancient Japan into modern day society. I have put these four stories in the order from the least in change of tradition, to the most.
First, in Thousand Cranes by Yasunari Kawabata, which shows the least amount of change in Japanese Culture, there is the Shino bowl, which is used for tea ceremonies that is owned by Fumiko, which was originally owned by her mother.
