After reading "The Woman Hanging from the Thirteenth Floor Window," the reader may have interpreted that the woman hanging from the thirteenth floor window is debating whether or not she should let go. As she struggles to make such a decision, she dangles from the window, weighing out the pros and cons of holding on. She reminisces about the things that caused her to consider suicide, as well as the things that are worth living for.
She is suicidal mainly because she is unhappy with her life. She has been hurt by her ex-husbands, she is poor, her self-esteem is low, and she hears voices. The voices come to visit at night. They seem to haunt her. She may hear her grandmother's voice some nights, or the voices of "gigantic men of light," telling her to get up on other nights. Some of the voices even scream out...
