There are many factors that contributed to the eventual collapse of the Tsar's regime in March 1917; they are the Tsar's system of government, the military defeat and the opposition to the Tsar.

The Tsar's system of government was autocratic. This meant that the Tsar had absolute control over Russia. He could appoint ministers but often they were corrupt and inefficient. Furthermore, the Tsar's rule was enforced by the secret police, Okhrana, which was responsible for censoring books and newspapers and arresting the Tsar's opponents. As such the government did virtually nothing to look into and improve the lives of the people and their working conditions. Therefore, many people were very poor and had to work many hours. There were also many people arrested for suspected opposition against the Tsar. The social, economic and political conditions caused many people to be very dissatisfied with the Tsar's regime and opposition...
