In What Ways Is the Book "I Am David" about Quests and Journeys?
Summary: My essay is a detailed look at the book "I am David" by Anne Holm, and the character's journey through the book.
`I am David' is a book about a boy who begins a physical journey by escaping from a concentration camp and is on the run from them. He also journeys through life, his mind and his emotions. He overcomes many obstacles and his journey becomes a quest as he seeks his full identity and wonders if his mother is really out there.
David manages to escape from the camp, and all he has is a loaf of bread; a bottle of water; a cake of soap; a penknife; and a compass. David travels across Europe - Italy, Switzerland, Germany and Denmark, knowing that at any moment they might catch up with him and kill him, or worse, take him back to the camp.
