Homer Vs. Tolkien
Summary: Essay compares "The Odyssey" with "The Hobbit."
Homer's tale of Odysseus is the same tale as Tolkien's tale of Bilbo Baggins told from a different perspective. It is uncanny how many similarities there are in these adventures. Both of them are in totally different worlds, but still follow the same stages of the adventure of the hero. Both travel through very hard and challenging times to reach their goal, have to make many sacrifices, and give up certain aspects of their lives. The characters and stories are very alike.
In both books, there are chapters that directly relate to one another, and follow the exact same cycle. The chapters might be in different order, or come at different parts of the story, but essentially have the same structure. Evil, greed, death, love, and life are the main characteristics in every chapter of every book. They balance each other out and together create a great story...
