Anyone and Noone
Edward Estlin Cummings's (1894-1962) style is characterized by "typographical nonconformity (including that of his own name: e e cummings), distortions of syntax, unusual punctuation, new words, and a liberal use of jazz rhythms and slang" (Encarta). "He celebrated love, spontaneity, individuality, and the liberation of materialism" (Kennedy 458). Cummings wrote with his "celebrated love" and a reader of his work can clearly see how his life shaped his work in "anyone lived in a pretty how town."
In 1894 Edward Estlin Cummings born in Cambridge, Massachusetts on October 14 to Edward Cummings, a teacher of sociology and political science at Harvard since 1891, and Rebecca Haswell Cummings. Cummings's parents bought Joy Farm, their summer home near Silver Lake, New Hampshire (1899) (Marks 17). Cummings had great love and admiration for his parents.
