Summary: Essay provides a discussion on the Greek philosopher and mathematician Plato.
I will be discussing Plato the famous philosopher in this paper. I will be explaining Plato's life and his history, discuss his influence on geometry and explain and give examples of modern day math that is now affected by him. "Let no one destitute of geometry enter my doors," that is Plato's attitude towards the study of geometry. Plato's general importance to mathematics is first he put astronomy and mathematics together. Second he described numbers as being in two separate classes, even and odd. Plato felt that geometry should be pursued for the sake of knowledge not just for life. "He who is truly an astronomer must be wisest," stated Plato when he was asked about future astronomers. Plato was a Greek philosopher who figured math and astronomy should be put together, and worked many ways with geometric numbers and shapes.
