About one out of six- thousand males or one out of eight- thousand females get Muscular Dystrophy. 20-30 out of 100,000 males get this disease in the U.S.A. alone. It is a good thing the disease is not contagious, so it will not spread out to others. Since this disease is found on the X chromosome, it is a sex-linked disease. Males have one recessive gene, but the females have two dominant genes. To get this disease you need two of the same recessive genes in your body. Males have one recessive gene and one dominant gene.
