Summary: Compares themes and ideas in "Hanging Fire" and "Oranges."
During a teenager's life, they face many minor and major challenges. Some fall to the challenges, others overcome the challenges and there are the few that ignore them. These challenges cause emotional and mental stress making the journey to adulthood a hard one. Even though it is a hardship, it is still a very important part in life. In the two poems, "Hanging Fire" by Lorde and "Oranges" By Soto both deal with the issue of coming of age. Even though both deal with the same topic, they contrast in every aspect.

"Hanging Fire" by Lorde is a poem about a fourteen year old that is struggling with coming of age. She is complaining about many things such as her room being to small, not being able to dance and her mom not caring about her. This poem clearly expresses her realities of life three distinct parts.
