In this day and time, people have certain expectations of what is going to happen in their life. Some people want to be rich and some want to have an extensive education, but what if one's expectations are a little too far for them? Charles Dickens answers that question in his book, "Great Expectations." For the protagonist Pip, the idea of expectations encourages his development in life, as he has "great expectations" about his future. Through characterization, Dickens conveys the fact that expectations.
Basically, Pip is an idealist. Whenever he recognizes that there is something better than what he has, he desires improvement for himself.
