Stephen King was born on September 21, 1947, at Maine General Hospital in Portland, Maine. Two years before he was born, physicians had informed his father, Donald Edward King, and his mother, Nellie Ruth Pillsbury King, that they would never conceive. Stephen also had a brother, his name was David King. David was adopted because the King's thought they would never have a child; so they did the next best thing and adopted one.
