Discusses Critically the View That Conscience Is the Voice of God
In divine command ethics everything that exists is dependant on god. This means that even moral codes are dependant on god. I.e. x is good = god wills x, however if y is bad but then god changes his mind and decides to will y then y is good. This means that the conscience, the part of us that decides whether or not we do an action (that is morally good or bad), is the voice of god because it depends on god and could not be without god. This is the view by Duns Scotus and Occam. God is good means god is willed by god.
Some disagree and say that god is good means that god fulfils the expectations of the morality that humans have developed. God does not have control over morality, it is external to what is dependant on him.
