Summary: Evaluation of the theme of the short story "A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings" by Gabriel Marquez.
In the story, "A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings," the author, Gabriel Marquez implicates many of the flaws in human nature and our society. Marquez includes these themes with a technique called magical realism, or using supernatural events in an otherwise realistic story to help illustrate a theme. The story is about a relatively poor family, Pelayo, Elisenda and their baby. One day, Pelayo discovers a bizarre old man with tattered wings lying in their backyard face down in a puddle of mud. At first, few people show respect for the angel. People are flocking from all over to see this supernatural being. When Elisenda decides to charge admission so see the angel, they become rich. After everything the angel does for them including ridding the baby of his fever and making the family a lot of money, Elisenda is very relieved by his departure. In this...
