Travellers are embarking on journeys around the world that may broaden their horizons thus contributing in their personal growth. These journeys are depicted in a variety of forms and mediums and for different reasons. Each text's medium affects the audience, which in turn influences the meaning of physical journeys. Most physical journeys can be separated into three stages: the expectation (though in some cases, like when the journey is involuntary or unexpected there may be none), the physical journey, and the consequences as a result of the changes effected by the physical journey on the traveller. Physical journeys involve different types of obstacles, which in many cases challenge travellers in their values and beliefs. Physical journeys are the physical movement from one place to another, but in many texts the traveller is "moved" emotionally and intellectually as well as physically.
