Reflection on the alienation of Hamlet
Hamlet returns home from college and finds that his father, the King is murdered.
Hamlet then sees that his mother and uncle are dating, even after the death of his father
only a few days prior. I believe that Hamlet is first alienated by Gertrude. The person he
would least expect to alienate him, his mother. Gertrude has not grieved and has
completely disregarded her son's feelings. She marries Claudius who happens to be her
husband's murderer and his brother. When Claudius marries Gertrude he is made King,
which destroys Hamlet. His mother does not even understand why her son is upset with
her. These are two excellent examples to show how Hamlet's family members are
alienating him.
