The importance of the Roman Catholic Church and religion in general has decreased dramatically and the latest statistics show that thirty per cent of 10-year-old children do not know why Christmas is celebrated.

Many people refuse to take part in religious instructions at school and some even leave the Catholic Church for several reasons. One of the most important reasons why religion has become less important is that believe forms a big contrast to our rational mind. The fact is that new developments in science and technology have given us the possibility to explain and analyse nearly every natural process and so it is very hard for some people to imagine that there is a superhuman being that is responsible for everything. For example the Roman Catholic Church sticks to the history of "Adam and Eve" although Charles Darwin's Theory of Evolution is scientifically proved.
