The Day the Music Died
Summary: My essay is favorable interest in the military and backing for the phrase "Freedom is not Free."
On a cold day in December a young soldier of eighteen years stood on a wet street in Vietnam and he was prepared to give his life for his country. His last words were simple "Freedom is Never Free," as a bullet silently ended his short existence. To the politicians and corporate leaders of our nation the current war in Iraq is interpreted as the billions of dollars the War on Terrorism is costing the United States. To the families of the soldiers who are presently stationed in Iraq the war causes them to wonder if lives are given for a just cause. In my mind war is something that is inevitable to subsistence. Often it is difficult for American citizens to understand why we fight for certain things but it is part of a larger picture. It is our friends and family giving their lives and efforts...
