Taking that definition into account when analyzing The Hobbit by J.R R.Tolkien and The Eye of the World by Robert Jordan you could honestly say the books are parallel. Besides the obvious resemblance, that being they are both fantasy books, there are several similarities. Logically, since these two books are like each other, the two series the are from have more parallels later on. The actual series of The Lord of the Rings ( The Hobbit is just the prelude) draws much, much more similarities as the plot unfolds, even though The Wheel of Time series has four times more books in it and probably five times longer in length.
