Reconstructing the British Empire
Summary: Reconstructing the British Empire after the French and Indian War. Done from the new Alan Brinkley Textbook on American History. Yeah yeah this is on the British Empire, but its from an American History Book; I know, it's strange.
After the French and Indian War, Britain realized that it must take some drastic actions in order to stay in control of the empire. The war persuaded Britain that they could no longer govern their empire with as much ease as they had in the past. Some factors including immense debt from the war and the unwillingness of the colonists to pay taxes, initiated the reorganization of the British Empire.
Enormous debts from the French and Indian War left the British with no choice but to reconstruct their empire. The most reasonable idea that the government in London came up with was to increase taxes to the wealthier population in Britain. However, the landlords and merchants opposed to paying theses high taxes complaining that they were already paying huge amounts of taxes. The arranging of British troops on the Indian border augmented the cost of protecting the Americans...
