Summary: Essay explores the relationship Francis Walker had with the Indians.
Francis Walker helped save the Indians by suggesting to place them on reservations so that the government could "scientifically manage the affairs and welfare of Indians." However, this didn't go into affect until after Congress had destroyed many Indians with the Dawes Act.
Francis Walker believed that the best way to socially engineer and save the Indians was to place them on government controlled reservations. To keep the Indians on the reservations a law would be enforced that the military could attack them at any time they weren't on the reservations. On the reservations, Walker hoped to teach the Indians "industrial skills until at least one generation had been placed on a course of self-improvement." Walker's brilliant idea for saving the Indians didn't go into affect until after the Dawes Act demolished many Indians.
