Summary: Essay discusses the views on personalities by other psychologists.
There are five major perspectives of personality. All have strengths and weakness associated with each one. They will be explained in this essay.
The psychodynamic theory stemmed from Sigmund Freud, a man obsessed with sex. Each theory says that the personality is characterized by a dynamic struggle. The drives include, sex, aggression, and need for superiority. Often they conflict with laws and moral issues. At sometime they become internalized and conflict with ourselves and often clashes arise. Some concepts, such as the id and ego, make some raise their eyebrow. Not everyone agrees with such a thing. This theory focuses on the far-reaching effects of childhood. They think personality derives from childhood, and think it is important to be aware of emotional needs.
