Radio Silence

Summary: This essay deals with the censorship of rap music on the radio.
The radio was conceived to be a way to communicate ideas through sound; it was thought to be a medium between writing a letter and physical interaction. It has largely served its purpose, becoming the plate on which information was served. With the increasing popularity of music, the radio demand broadened as well and the music industry and the radio industry fed off each other. The FCC has many regulations on the music aired over radio waves, primarily dealing with obscenities in music.

Rap music, quickly emerging as one of the more popular among teenagers, is known for its fast and furious use of such derogatory words. Artists such as Marshal Mathers (also know as Slim Shady and Eminem) are especially associated with crude language. His song "The Real Slim Shady" includes the following:
