This essay will consider the main themes of the novel such as; relationships, love, trust, conflict, guilt, confusion, control and the genre shifting of the novel to try and justify whether or not the title is important to the novel as a whole. As the title suggests, the novel is ultimately about love. But in the context of the novel `Enduring' plays both as an adjective and a verb. It is like a pun: `putting up with love' or `everlasting love'. And there are many kinds of love portrayed throughout the novel: Joe's love for Clarissa, and for science. Jed's love for Joe, and for God. And Clarissa's love for Joe, and for Keats. Within the novel itself there are many situations where the love of many people are tested: there is a strain on Joe and Clarissa's love due to the role of Jed in Joe's life...
