Erich Maria Remarque was born June 22, 1898 in Osnabruumick, Germany. His father was a bookbinder that sparked Remarque's first interest for writing. He attended the University of Munster until he was drafted at the age of 18. In the army he was sent to fight on the Western Front and was wounded several times. It was there that Remarque gained his views of the war, which later helped him to write his acclaimed novel. After the wounds he received he was later discharged from the army and took a teacher's course offered to Veterans by the Government. He taught for a year, but decided to pursue a writing career instead. At this time of his life he wrote All Quiet on the Western Front, they published his novel in 1929. Remarque became famous for his novel however he also lost his citizenship. The Nazis banned his books in 1933 and held public...
