The Beginning of the Legend and King Arthur

The earliest sources of Arthurian Legend come from Celtic storytellers in Wales and Brittany, between 7th and 10th century BC. However it wasn't until early 12th century, when Geoffrey of Monmouth who gave us the first full account of King Arthur. According to legend Arthur was the illicit son of Uther Pendragon who, with the help of Merlin, had seduced Yguerne, the duchess of Cornwall disguised as her husband. Arthur was brought up under Merlin's instruction, and became the noblest of all the kings. Whether a fabrication of early literature or an actually King, Arthur becomes the yardstick against which all Kings are measured.

Graham Chapman plays King Arthur as a good and noble knight, who is brave enough to face his foes in armed combat and knows well enough when to run away from undefeatable danger.
