In television, and movies prison rape is shown all the time, sometimes as comedy. For instance the term "Don't drop the soap in the shower" is used and publicized as something to be laughed at, but prison rape is no funny matter. Almost everyone knows of cases where a prisoner gets raped or molested by another inmate, which seems to be very common in prison. What most people don't realize is that guards are raping the prisoners at women's correctional facilities. According to Astrid Zweynert, "Women prisoners in the United States are subjected to serious sexual abuse, including rape and being sold as `sex slaves' to male inmates." There is more rape at female prisons then originally thought. The guards are mostly men at these institutions which gives them more power to do what they please to the inmates.
