Computerized Axial Tomography or commonly known as CAT Scan is a large aspect of modern-day medicine. CAT Scan machines "produce X-Rays, a powerful form of electro magnetic energy" (How Stuff Works, Inc. ©2004). A CAT Scan machine can detect the most serious of conditions, such as head damage among others and plays a huge part in saving lives. It is sometimes the fine line between life and death.

Computerized Axial Tomography was a concept that arrived into the minds of scientists in the mid to late 1960s. It was invented by Godfrey N. Hounsfield of England and "South African (later American) physicist Alan Cormack" (MedicineNet, Inc., ©2004). It was invented in 1972 and was in regular use by 1979 in most regions of the sophisticated world. Most parts of this invention were done in United Kingdom and the United States.
