He is named Harry Dalton (Pierce Brosnan). The first scene in the movie is in Colombia, and a volcano is erupting, and Harry and his fiancé are there, as they try to escape a volcanic bomb smashes through the roof of the truck they are in and kills Harry's fiancé. After that scene takes place and the volcano is done erupting it is Harry at his workplace, the United States Geological Survey. As Harry's boss, Paul Dreyfus calls him into his office to tell him he needs to go to Dante's Peak.
